Coaching Microcredential
Program Description
In order to coach in a New York State Public School District, an individual is required to earn a Coaching Certification through the New York State Education Department. Opportunities to coach include Varsity, Junior Varsity, Freshman, and Modified levels for both boys and girls. SUNY Ulster has the potential to make itself a destination for aspiring new coaches. A Microcredential in coaching will provide potential students with the foundation needed to become a successful coach.
New York State outlines what potential coaching candidates must achieve in order to continue as a coach at these levels. Specifically, coaching candidates are required to complete course work curriculum in the following identified class sections;
Content & Learning Outcomes:
- PEC 297 Philosophies, Principals & Organization of Coaching
- PEC 298 Health Science Applied to Coaching
- PEC 299 Theory and Techniques of Coaching
SUNY Ulster currently offers each of the three identified requirements through New York State for students to earn College credit towards this certification. In addition, for any coach, is the understanding of the human body, and how it works through exercise and physical movement. Therefore, this microcredential proposes the addition of the following course;
- PEC 199 Introduction to Exercise Science
