Advanced Manufacturing Technician - General Technology Pathway Certificate

Program Description

The Advanced Manufacturing Technician - General Technology Pathway Certificate program prepares individuals to enter the workforce or advance in their present position in manufacturing. This certificate will satisfy the first year of the Advanced Manufacturing Technician A.O.S. program.

The Advanced Manufacturing area at SUNY Ulster works closely with local manufacturers to connect students with internships and employment. Designed for either full‐time or part‐time study, some of the courses will be offered in the evenings.

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the Advanced Manufacturing Technician - General Technology Pathway Certificate, graduates will be able to demonstrate the following program learning outcomes:

1. Understand the roles and function of manufacturing technicians

2. Demonstrate understanding of the principles and theory of manufacturing materials and processes

3. Demonstrate knowledge of the basic operation of machine tools

4. Apply knowledge of metrology in a manufacturing setting

5. Interpret technical drawings

6. Apply communication skills to creatively solve problems and work as a team member

7. Apply appropriate mathematical procedures and quantitative methods to solve practical problems in mathematics and manufacturing

Employment Potential

Students who complete this certificate are ready to enter the workforce as an entry-level technician in a number of in-demand occupations in the manufacturing field in the Hudson Valley.

Requirements for Program Entry

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Satisfactory placement in Entering Student Assessment

Developmental Assistance Available

For students who do not meet basic reading and math requirements or who have other learning issues, extra assistance is readily available through SUNY Ulster’s Center for Academic Planning and Support (CAPS), the Patrik Math Center, the Literacy Lab, and peer and professional tutors.
