Program Description
The microcredentials in Direct Care Practice: DSP 1 and 2 align with the national certification offered to Direct Support Professionals through The National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP). These microcredentials provide students with the opportunity to apply for Level One and Level Two certification. Completion of these courses will allow direct support professionals to meet the industry demand for quality care of the populations they support. Students are provided with critical skills and credentials they can add to their LinkedIn profiles and resumes.
Direct Care Practice: Direct Support Professional 1
The microcredential in Direct Care Practice: DSP aligns with the national certification offered to Direct Support Professionals through The National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP). These microcredentials provide students with the opportunity to apply for Level One certification. Completion of these courses will allow direct support professionals to meet the industry demand for quality care of the populations they support.
The microcredential in Direct Care Practice: DSP 1 consists of three courses within the Direct Care Practice Certificate program.
HUS 103 Intro to Human Service
HUS 104 Direct Support Practice for Human Service Professionals
HUS 202 Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Direct Care Practice: Direct Support Professional 2

HUS 209 Ethics and Standards in Human Services
HUS 211 Interviewing and Counseling
HUS 212 or HUS 213 HUS Fieldwork Practicum OR PSY 101 General Psychology
These microcredentials are stackable into the Direct Care Practice Certificate.
Student Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- Communicate effectively both in oral and written formats.
- Learn and apply best practices and evidence-based skills and knowledge in the workplace.
- Identify the standards of professional conduct and navigate ethical dilemmas one might encounter in the field.
- Understand the importance of respecting the dignity and welfare of individuals who receive services and how to support them using ethical and effective interventions.
- Collaborate effectively with members of a group or team while applying the principles of rights, access, equity, and autonomous participation.
Prerequistes
Direct Care Practice: Direct Support Professional 2 has a prerequiste of HUS 103. HUS 212 and HUS 213 have additional prerequisites.
