Program Description
The General Management Certificate can be completed in one year of full-time study at 12-13 credits per semester. It provides the students with focused instruction in managerial theory and principles, managing people, communication, accounting, legal basics and technical tools. There is also experiential learning through an internship or a course in Leadership. The certificate provides knowledge, skills and a credential to the employee or organizational manager for advancement. All courses in the certificate can be transferred to our A.A.S. in Business & Entrepreneurial Studies, A.S. in Individual Studies or, when approved, our new A.A.S. in Specialized Studies as part of the core curriculum.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the certificate program, students will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
- Discuss management in the context of organizational dynamics and the community
- Develop proficiency of technical tools used in business and organizations
- Develop and enhance written and verbal communication skills
- Discuss and demonstrate foundational accounting and legal principles
- Evaluate sound principles of organizational success through people, organizational culture, theories and practice of management
Developmental Assistance
For students who do not meet basic reading and math requirements or who have other learning issues, extra assistance is readily available through SUNY Ulster’s Center for Academic Planning and Support (CAPS), the Patrik Math Center, the Literacy Lab, and peer and professional tutors.
