Program Description
This certificate program answers a need in the local region for people with the basic skills to effectively manage microcomputer networks. Educational and financial institutions and small businesses of all types have expressed this need. The 18‐credit program is designed to fit within SUNY Ulster’s Network Administrator Associate in Applied Science degree program. The program curriculum is made up of six courses in microcomputer applications and network design. Graduates of the program will be capable of recognizing, evaluating, and controlling microcomputer networks.
SUNY Ulster is a Cisco Systems Academy working under the guidance of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Students enrolling in the program can choose which training path they wish to pursue. The College has a classroom and hardware lab on the Stone Ridge campus dedicated to the Network Administrator curriculum.
Program Outcomes
At the completion of the Network Administrator Certificate program, a student will be able to
- Learn the fundamentals of computer networking;
- Successfully undertake the CISCO CCNA examination;
- Successfully undertake the Microsoft MCP examination;
- Qualify for employment in the field as helpdesk/repair depot technician.
Employment Potential
Graduates will be prepared for employment as entry‐level technicians in a PC networking environment.

Developmental Assistance Available
For students who do not meet basic reading and math requirements or who have other learning issues, extra assistance is readily available through SUNY Ulster’s Center for Academic Planning and Support (CAPS), the Patrik Math Center, the Literacy Lab, and peer and professional tutors.
