Fundamentals of Clean Technology Microcredential


Program Description

Clean Technology jobs are growing as the region helps NY State meet the objectives of the New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) to empower every New Yorker to fight climate change at home, at work and in their communities. This Microcredential will allow students from all disciplines to understand energy efficiency and clean energy as it relates to their jobs, their homes and their community. 

The courses within this Microcredential include:

MFG 120  Introduction to Photovoltaics (PV) Systems

GRB 160   Energy Auditor 

 

The courses in this Microcredential are stackable into the Green Building AAS degree program.  Students may take this Microcredential as credit bearing or non-credit bearing.

 

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Fundamentals of Clean Technology Microcredential, students will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of solar energy and building science
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of common tools used in solar and building science
  • Identify the basic safety procedures required while working with solar and building science equipment
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of PV system components
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of performance analysis, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a PV system
  • Demonstrate how to evaluate a home using advanced pressure diagnostics including zonal and series leakage testing

 

Employment Potential

This Microcredential allows students to enter into an entry-level position in the Clean Technology field.
