Basic Engineering Microcredential

Program Description

 

This credential is of value to a student looking for employment while completing an engineering degree.  A student that has completed these courses would have a broad, introductory level of scientific skills and engineering thinking. Courses included in this Microcredential include:

MAT 170   Calculus I 

PHY 109   General Physics I

CHE 103   General Chemistry I

ENR 103   Introduction to Engineering Design: 3D Prototyping

ENR 105   Introduction to Engineering Design: Elementary Robotics

ENR 107   Engineering Graphical Analysis

ENR 110   Engineering Programming

 

This credential is stackable into the Engineering Science AS degree.                        

 

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Basic Engineering Microcredential, students will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

  • Be able to code a microprocessor and use basic electronics components to solve basic engineering problems. Be able to read engineering drawings and use CAD tools to create professional engineering drawings. 
  • Be able to draw on mathematical experiences, like proving ideas or theorems to be true or false, and be able to apply these to engineering situations. Be able to communicate ideas in the form of a mathematical proof. Have a calculus I level of mathematical sophistication.
  • Understand basic principles of physics and chemistry that form the foundation of a worthwhile analysis of many engineering situations.
  • Be able to use a computer as a modern engineering tool. Be able to program using a common programming language and have experience solving engineering problems using a computer.

 

Employment Potential

This Microcredential allows students to enter into an internship or work experience to assist engineers or to serve as technicians in a variety of companies within the region.
