Police Basic Training Certificate30‐Credit Certificate ProgramHegis Code: 5505 Program DescriptionThe Police Basic Training certificate program is organized to include the learning objectives mandated by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) state‐approved police academy curriculum. These courses must be completed by full‐time study. Classes may be given during the days, evenings, or weekends. Employment PotentialAccording to the U.S. Department of Labor, “Employment of police and detectives is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations through 2010.” It also states that “layoffs, on the other hand, are rare because retirements enable most staffing cuts to be handled through attrition.” Successful completion of these courses does not guarantee employment. Potential earnings range from $30,460 to $50,230 at the 50 percent mark. These numbers increase if employment is found with state or federal entities. Requirements for Program Entry

Course SequencePolice Basic Training students must maintain a C+ in all required ESA courses to be eligible for graduation. Students will be required to supply their own transportation to off‐campus labs and learning sites. ESA courses must be completed in sequence.
