VTS 256 - Small Animal Diseases and Nursing 3 cr.

Students will study how to assess normal and abnormal small animal vital functions, understand vaccine protocols, proper administration and use of medications, recognize common disease and provide care for healthy and hospitalized patients. Understand the importance of surgical nursing and the skills that are required to assess a patient’s medical status. Aseptic technique in the surgical suite and in the preparation of a patient for surgery will be discussed as well as prophylactic dental care and dental disease. 3 hrs. lect; 240 hrs. clinical skills practicum at a veterinary hospital.
